What is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that form the ‘floor of your core’. Just like other body muscles, they can become weak or tight (due to injury, surgery or stress).

Examining the Pelvic Floor:

Pelvic Health Physiotherapists may assess the pelvic floor by performing either an external or an internal examination. This allows us to determine the tone and strength of the muscles, as well as checking that the muscles are working in the correct way.

Thise examination part of the assessment is only performed if you feel comfortable and give your valid consent.

You are welcome to bring a Chaperone.

Ruth has undergone additional Specialist Pelvic Health training with the POGP (Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy), and also with Dr Ruth Jones, Maria Elliot and Kate Walsh.
